Carlos Queiroz left his role as the Red Devils assistant manager in the summer to take up the Portugal national team job vacated by Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Sir Alex Ferguson promoted Mike Phelan as his number two with Meulensteen taking Phelan's former position as first-team coach.

And Meulensteen admitted Ferguson's decision to appoint the pair full-time will benefit the club.

"Part of the success at Manchester United over the years is related to the stability and continuity at the club which the manager brings himself," he told MUTV.

"I think Sir Alex had a good look to see how the partnership with myself wou in with the league with games etc, I think he saw enough to decide not to bring anyone else in.

"We must realise the good things that Carlos has put in place here. We need to carry that on but maybe put our own identity on to things to ensure we keep progressing as a club."
