Carling Cup conundrum continues

Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers have yet to resolve the dilemma over when to play their Carling Cup quarter-final clash.

The game is scheduled to take place during week commencing December 1.

As United tackle Manchester City at Eastlands on Sunday, November 30, with Blackburn facing the more geographically challenging trip to Portsmouth on the same day, the Carling Cup tie would normally be scheduled for Wednesday, December 3.

However, that situation is complicated because Manchester City are in UEFA Cup action against Paris St Germain that evening and local police prefer both their major clubs not to play at the same time.

With United due to play a Champions League tie against Aalborg the following week before flying to Japan for the World Club Cup, there is little opportunity for the Carling Cup tie to be played at a later date as the semi-finals should take place at the beginning on January.

Discussions with Greater Manchester Police are continuing, with the likelihood remaining that Blackburn will travel to Old Trafford on December 3.

"doesnt matter when they play the damn game, but utd's line-up shd look like this; amos, rafael, o'shea, evans, eckersley, gibson, rodrigo, park, welbeck, manucho, tevez. a real test for utd's next generation... "

"Brack66 - thats a cool idea so when the Police are so stretched covering football matches then other more important things like catching criminals can be forgotton. Then when on the same day there is a major riot or robbery in your city everyone can blame the police. in fact lets take it one step further and blame the Manchester Police for the war in Iraq, the troubles in Northern Ireland and the war in Afganistan!"

jaylayuk (Tottenham Hotspur fan)

"Thats right Brack66. your the man, you tell those police what to do. How could they not listen to you.

"they will have to like it or lump it" what a TW*T you must be"

"Just for once, the police will have to like it or lump it."
