Ribery: I only want move to Madrid

Franck Ribery has told Bayern Munich he wants to leave the club this summer - but only to join the new generation of galacticos at Real Madrid.

Ribery: Wants to leave Bayern

The France winger has been at the centre of a long-running saga over the past six months, with Real and Premier League champions Manchester United both chasing his signature.

Bayern have remained adamant that they will not be selling £30million-rated Ribery, but their star asset has now announced his desire to move away from Germany.

However the 26-year-old has delivered another blow to United after revealing he wants to follow Raul Albiol, Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema to the Bernabeu.

Sir Alex Ferguson was thought to want Benzema before Real stepped in and Ribery also now looks likely to move the Spanish giants this summer.

He told L'Equipe: "I have decided that I want to leave. It will be Real Madrid or nothing.

"I will wait to see how things pan out but I would like to hold talks with the Bayern management soon."

Madrid are keen on the former Marseille man but have met with stiff resistance from Bayern, who are adamant their star turn will not be leaving for Spain.

And Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness does not believe Ribery's desire to leave alters their position.

"Does Franck want to go to Real?" he asked.

"For us, that changes absolutely anything. Life is not always a fairytale.

"Real have not made us a specific proposal and we do not need their money."

"That means Madrid can play with Benzema up front, supported by Kaka (centre) and Ronaldo and Ribery on the flanks. Wow. Wonder if this will actually work, as the best players don't always make the best team. I agree with Dennis Law's(...); players like Huntelaar, Higuain, Robben, Sneijder and VDVaart are top-level players who could make it anywhere. Speaking as a football fan, I would love to see Huntelaar at ManU or L'Pool, Sneijder at ManU or Arsenal, VDVaart at Chelski, and so on..."

"can't blame Ribery or any of the others.. the round leathery thing well and truly rolling very much towards Madrid at the moment!! just remains to be seen if these Galacticos mk II can be a great team, not just individuals.. don't see why not though, only the effect on those already there could be an issue, I think..."

"Real have some good players on their books who aren't necessarily any less capable than some of the players that they have bought. Huntelaar as we all know and I really rate Schneider for instance. He came back too early from injury last season, but you could tell he was class watching him in the European Championships. I have seen comments like 'Why buy him if he couldn't get into Real last year' about certain players. Some of these players weren't even given time to settle in. Some of the players they offload will be assets to good sides where they can be team players instead of Galacticos or individuals. Last time that supremo was at Real he turned them into the Harlem Globetrotters but the bubble burst... there are some big egos possibly getting even bigger on the way to Spain. I am a Man U supporter and think it is quite uncanny that Real are spending all that money when there is a Spanish Striker at Liverpool who is capable (if injury free) of putting them all in the shade next season. If Ribery and Benzema are worth the sums being banded about... I'd like to see what Real would put up for Torres and Gerrard... And that is from a Man U fan!"

"redtommy, you have a valid point mate and one that i think will resonate within the Premiership in the next couple of seasons"

"This whole idea of the Spanish government bankrolling Real makes me sick, god knows how the other teams in La Liga must feel.Anyway it's good from my point of view that they are snapping up alot of utd's targets (I mean that in a serious non sarcastic way). It's hard to get excited about any player in europe right now as Real have probably got them half signed already."
