Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has reportedly agreed a fee of £5million with Manchester United for England Under-21 striker Fraizer Campbell.
United have also accepted a bid from Hull City, but Campbell is expected to head for the North-East to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms as Bruce steps up his efforts to strengthen the squad he inherited from Ricky Sbragia at the Stadium of Light.
The Huddersfield-born 21-year-old has made just four senior appearances for United, but impressed during a loan spell at Hull during the 2007-08 season, when he scored 15 goals in 37 appearances.
He spent much of last season at Tottenham after joining the club on a temporary basis as part of the deal which took Dimitar Berbatov in the opposite direction.
The former United trainee made 22 appearances, 13 of them as a substitute, and scored three goals during his spell at White Hart Lane.
Bruce has been targeting strikers throughout the summer after the Black Cats decided not to take up an option on Djibril Cisse.
He is understood to have tabled an offer in the region of £11million for Portsmouth's England international Peter Crouch, and the Wearsiders have a long-standing interest in Spurs marksman Darren Bent, although it remains to be seen whether or not they are prepared to meet Harry Redknapp's asking price for the player - believed to be £16million.

"I think every player would choose Sunderland over Hull. After Hull only just survived last season on the last day, whereas Sunderland have more money and are more likely to finish higher in the league than Hull.
So whats all this talk about money?????
NONSENSE!!!
IF YOU had to pick im sure it would be Sunderland!"

"Yeah...!
Let Campbel go and disclose his talent because we as Manchester fans, don't like to destroy some's future,so if He can be a starter in Hull then that's good.

"Hello......Good ridance to Campbell he has certainly given Brown the run round for the past month.....Excuse after excuse to put off signing on the dotted line (Under 21 Championships, Holiday etc)......We require players that want to play for Hull not money grabing play-boys who think money is the b-all and end-all of football.....and some premiership managers want to take that on board as well........Ex Hull City player and loyal fan. "jcosker - i agree somewhat with you, but i dont neccesarily think its "the money." Its possible Campbell thinks that 3rd choice (on a match day, starting 11 etc) at Sunderland is better than 1st choice at Hull. It could be that Bruce & Quinn have sold the club, dream and ambition to him more than Brown has for Hull. possibly - just playing devils adovcate and not trying to be biased here!"

"So does Bruce get a cheaper rate being a fergie oldboy than Hull? Or did Hull simply make a bid that was over the odds to what fergie valued him at? I definitely think it's the money rather than regular playing time that made his decision. Hull would've given him a platform to develop and shine where he will be a 3rd choice striker at best at Sunderland. Jones is already there and Bruce has made it clear he wants another striker (Crouch or Bent likely). "

"Arshavin23no1 - so you think we're going down no matter what!> bit of an insular view considering we havent even made any moves in the market yet."

"It wouldnt make much difference if the get campbell or not they are still going this year "

"im afraid as much as he had a few bright sparks(very few) at spurs and works hard he just didnt look prem quality. saying that who knows with more games he could prove me wrong. To aphroboy, rossi is a hard to call even if he came back after his success in italy and spain his style of play and size may limit him in the premier league"
