Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson has been named the North-East Football Writers Association's Young Player of the Year for 2009.
The 22-year-old midfielder will collect his award at the FWA's annual dinner in Durham later this month.
Sunderland-born Johnson made 33 senior appearances for the club last season as they slipped out of the Premier League, and he has excelled so far during the current campaign, which has brought him nine goals to date.
The senior award was won by then Sunderland defender Danny Collins ahead of former Newcastle counterpart Sebastien Bassong and Collins' now Stoke team-mate Tuncay Sanli, who played alongside Johnson at Boro last season.

"Sunderland born? Maybe bruce will make a move for him, more than likely go if he is a black cat at heart. Good player and at only 22 could prove to be a great cover in Sunderlands defence.
Boro better be offering a good extention for the lad, otherwise the above may happen.. might not be Sland he goes to, but deffo be going to PL club shortly."
