His knee injury meant that he did not activate a clause in his contract that would have earned him a new contract if he played a certain number of games, but the club have still decided to retain his services for next season.

The former Reading man told the club's website: "I was at the training ground last week when (chief executive) Peter Storrie pulled me to one side and said that the club wanted to offer me another year.

"I'm so happy. I'm so pleased to have been given another year, so my first words are 'thank you'."

Storrie added: "Linvoy has been a fantastic servant to this club both on and off the field. He deserves the opportunity to get fit and have a go next season."

After pushing on with his rehabilitation following surgery by knee specialist Richard Steadman in the United States in January, he is looking forward to being fully fit for pre-season training in July and admits: "The club have stuck by me.

"I am very grateful for that, and look forward to playing for Pompey again."
