Woodgate relishing Spurs competition

Jonathan Woodgate is expecting Tottenham's activity in the summer transfer market to provide plenty of competition for places at the club.

Woodgate: Wants more trophies next season

Head coach Juande Ramos will bring his own players to teh club after the season ends on Sunday, with the Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o the most high-profile player linked with a move to White Hart Lane.

Spurs' best XI has picked itself on the way to winning the Carling Cup but centre-back Woodgate anticipates more options for Ramos after summer recruitment.

"Next season there is going to be a lot of competition for places," said the January transfer-window signing from Middlesbrough. "I have come to the club to try and win trophies. We want to win another one."

Eto'o would be seen as a replacement for Dimitar Berbatov, who has never said he wants to leave but has been tipped to eventually play in the Champions League.

While Spurs can only offer UEFA Cup football, the lure of working with Ramos could offer them an edge when the transfer window reopens.

"He is top notch. He has won a lot of trophies and that was part of the pull to come to Spurs, because of his calibre," Woodgate told Sky Sports News.

"We are all on the same wavelength, we know where we want to go, and Ramos is the one to take us there.

"I loved my football since I have been at Spurs. Obviously I have had a lot of injury problems during my career, but hopefully I am over that now."

Croatia midfielder Luka Modric, who has agreed to join for Spurs from Dinamo Zagreb, highlighted Ramos as one of the factors for agreeing to sign.

Meanwhile, Spurs have confirmed a pre-season friendly at Leyton Orient on July 30.
