Cox confident of Bag-ging goals

Simon Cox is confident he can take the step up to the Championship level in his stride - and has hailed the "quality" in West Brom's squad.

The 22-year-old striker has signed a two-year deal with the Baggies after terrorising League One defences at Swindon last season, finishing alongside Bristol Rovers' Rickie Lambert as the top goalscorer across all four English divisions with 29 league strikes, 32 in all competitions.

And he is adamant he can replicate the form shown in the Robins' relegation dogfight as Albion scrap for promotion to the Premier League.

He said: "It's not a massive step up I don't think, there's obviously going to be some sort of step up because the players are probably quicker, stronger and technically better. But there won't be a massive step up.

"When you are playing in a big side in the Championship who have come down from the Premier League, people are now going to raise their games against us and we've got to match that with work ethic, and with the quality we've got in the squad we should win games."

Meanwhile, the club have appointed experienced former Cheltenham boss Keith Downing as Academy Under-18's coach, replacing Michael Appleton who was promoted to first-team coach.
