Crewe boss hopes Maynard stays

First-team coach Steve Holland believes a move is not in Nicky Maynard's best interests and that he would benefit from another year with Crewe.

Maynard: In demand
Maynard: In demand

Maynard, 21, has sprung to the attention of several Championship clubs after scoring 34 goals in the last two seasons for the Railwaymen.

But Holland told Crewe's official website: "There has been some interest in Nicky. For now though we expect, and are certainly hoping, that he will be here with us at the start of the season.

"There is a lot of money going around in the Championship at the moment with some of the transfers that are taking place and people can see that Nicky has a lot of potential, but he is still developing as a player.

"We didn't want to put a valuation on him. We will only do what is best for Nicky and he trusts us with that. He has been kept fully in touch with everything that has happened, with every club that has been involved and he is just taking it all in his stride.

"If a lower offer comes in for him, but if it is something that he really wants to do, then we will have to address that situation."
