Derby are reportedly among a group of five clubs who are interested in signing Wales Under-21 goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams from Crewe.
Blackburn, Middlesbrough, Swansea and Cardiff are also said to be weighing up a move for the shot-stopper.
Fon Williams is out-of-contract with his current League One employers this summer and looks set to leave Gresty Road after rejecting a new deal.
The 21-year-old has never actually featured in a league match for the Alex, despite winning international honours.
Crewe wanted him to stay and become their number one next season, with current incumbent Ben Williams also set to leave - but both are now on their way.
Fon Williams has caught the eye whilst on international duty and will have a number of options available to him.
It is believed a deal securing Fon Williams could be struck before the end of this month.
As he is under 24, Crewe will be due some compensation for the youngster.
