Jay McEveley admits he was delighted to join Preston on an emergency one-month loan after losing his place in the Derby side.
The defender fell out of favour at Pride Park last month but looks to revive his career at Deepdale and will go straight into the squad to face Swansea on Tuesday.
McEveley told the club's official website: "It's something that I have been looking for since I was out of the Derby team.
"I went to see the manager (Paul Jewell) and he was great, he understood that I needed to play.
"I got the phone call on Sunday from the Preston manager asking me if I'd like to come to Deepdale and get some games. He wants me here so I was made up."
