Davies targets starting spot

Steve Davies is hoping to pin down a place in Paul Jewell's starting line up after an encouraging start to his Derby career.

The 20-year-old forward, who joined the Rams in the summer from Tranmere, has enjoyed a successful start at Pride Park and opened his goalscoring account for his new club in the 1-1 draw against Birmingham last month.

Davies is now relishing the prospect of kicking on and securing a permanent berth in County's line-up having only started two league games this season.

"I've been involved in most games this season and I'm dead happy just to come off the bench and play my part," he told the Derby Telegraph.

"I knew I wasn't going to walk into the team. I'd done well at Tranmere but this is a different level. However, after my goal against Birmingham and start at Norwich, hopefully I can get a run in the team."
