The 28 year-old played under Jewell during their time at Wigan, helping the club gain promotion to the Premier League in 2005.
Wright has been virtually ever-present for Town this season and was full of praise for Jewell, who has managed to turn Derby into promotion contenders.
He told the matchday programme: "Paul did a great job at Wigan and I had some fantastic times working with him there.
"If you gave him 100 per cent and ran yourself into the ground for him he backed you all the way and he'll be no different at Derby."
