The 38-year-old left-back has signed a six-month contract at the Walkers Stadium, but he believes he can defy his advancing years and play on until at least the end of this season.

Powell told the club's official website: "It's just a short-term contract to begin with, but hopefully I can earn myself a longer one. It's down to me to perform whenever I'm called upon, and make sure that I train correctly as well.

"I have had a very long career, and in the latter stages of it I would like to be playing for a team that is successful and trying to do well, and I've got that in a nutshell here at Leicester City.

"We're under no illusions as to how tough it will be this year, but if we can get the right balance the signs are positive.

"There's a lot of football to be played but I feel we have the makings of a good team and the right man in charge. It was a tough pill to swallow last year (suffering relegation) but that's gone now. You've got to move on and that's what we'll try to do."
