Irvine plays down Scotland rumours

Alan Irvine has laughed off his chances of becoming the next Scotland manager - and is focused on steering Preston to promotion.

Irvine has performed a highly impressive job since his arrival at Deepdale two years ago and has been one of several names to be linked with the post vacated by George Burley's recent sacking.

However, Irvine said: "I've never been approached about the Scotland job.

"I'm hoping to become the manager in charge when Preston are promoted to the Premier League. That's been my goal since I first came in."
