Sonko keen to remain a Royal

Reading defender Ibrahima Sonko has declared his desire to stay at the club and prove he is committed to the Royals' cause.

Sonko: Committed to Reading

The Senegal international was recently suspended for two weeks and fined a fortnight's wages - along with Emerse Fae - after he refused to play in a reserve game, but after holding 'clear the air' talks with Royals boss Steve Coppell he is ready to reapply his focus to matters on the pitch.

"I know deep down how committed I am," Sonko told the Reading Chronicle.

"It is my job and I like to give my all, so I was disappointed to see the manger say those things about commitment. That hurt and it made me angry.

"It was unfortunate it happened that way. People talk to each other and suddenly it gets out of hand.

"But that's what made me more disappointed than anything else. My commitment has never been an issue. I have played through injury before and I've never said anything out of line.

"So I was extremely disappointed to hear that but you can't stop people from saying things.

"It is all in the past as far as I am concerned. The whole thing was blown out of proportion."

"My priority is to get back in the team and forget about everything in the past. There is no point in wasting more time over it," he continued.

"I feel fit and well and I want to build up my fitness over the summer and come back strong for the start of next season.

"I don't know what the gaffer is thinking at this moment but I am ready for anything. If the club don't want me then I will have to think things over."
