Reading manager Steve Coppell insists their past success in the Championship will count for nothing when the new campaign kicks off.
In their last season in the second tier, the Royals won the league with a record 106 points - and lost just once.
But Coppell believes that will have no impact on their bid to regain Premiership status.
And he told the club's official website: "The fact that we won promotion two years ago won't help us because it's a new challenge, everything is different.
"There might be some of the same players here, but it's one competitive league.
"A lot of teams will be gambling -there are new owners intent on getting into the Premier League.
"So it's a totally different situation from the last team and what happened in the past will not help or hinder us now. There's a fresh plan with drive and determination for the season."
