Sigurdsson poised for Royals return

League Two outfit Shrewsbury have failed in their bid to extend Reading midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson's loan deal at the Prostar Stadium.

The Shrews asked the Championship side if Sigurdsson could remain with them after his month-long loan period had expired.

However, Reading have turned down their request.

Shrewsbury boss Paul Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire: "I'd like to have kept him for another month but Reading want him back."

Sigurdsson's last game for the club will be Friday's clash against Chesterfield at Saltergate.
