Reading defender Chris Armstrong has revealed that he nearly quit the game during his lengthy battle with a knee problem.
The 26-year-old comes up against his former club Sheffield United at the weekend and insists he owes his career to former Blades boss Neil Warnock.
He told Reading's official website: "I was out for two years with a knee injury.
"I was told to retire by one surgeon but Neil Warnock and the Sheffield United chairman told me to keep going.
"Thankfully I did and now every day I get to play football is a blessing for me.
"I'd like to think that I'll get a good reception from their fans. I always worked hard for them and I think they appreciated that."
