The 30-year-old striker, a £4million record summer signing from Everton, hit a rich vein of goalscoring form to help the Blades launch a late play-off charge last month.

Beattie struck a hat-trick in the home win over Leicester and a stunning equaliser in the Steel City derby with a late free-kick three days later.

The former Blackburn and Southampton forward scored in his next two matches - victories over Burnley and Hull - taking his tally to six in four matches in April and 22 overall for the season.
