Stead handed Ellis plaudits

Sheffield United assistant manager Sam Ellis hailed striker Jon Stead after he helped record a comfortable 4-1 win against Helmond Sport.

Stead: Working hard
Stead: Working hard

Former Blackburn striker Stead netted twice while a second-half strike from Stephen Quinn and an own goal from Helmond skipper Peter Uneken concluded the rout.

A late consolation from the Dutch second division side's Dirk Derksen proved to have little bearing on the final result and Ellis was forthcoming in his praise for the Blades after recording an impressive three wins out of three during their European tour.

Ellis told the club's official website: "It was a good team effort. We have a great ethic, but Jon Stead had by far his best game since we have been at the club."

He added: "It wasn't just our fitness that secured the victory, it is more of a reflection of our ability.

"All the lads have worked really hard this week, our fitness is good but there is more to come."
