Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is set to make his third signing of the week by snapping up Sunderland defender Greg Halford for around £2million.
The 24-year-old right-back is set to complete a move to the Premier League new bots in the next 24 hours, following striker Kevin Doyle (Reading) and midfielder Andrew Surman (Southampton) to Molineux.
And he will take McCarthy's summer spending in total to approximately £12million.
Halford spent last season on loan at Sheffield United and will provide competition for Kevin Foley, who was Wolves' player of the year last season.
Halford made the £3million move from Reading to Sunderland two years ago when the Wearsiders were managed by Roy Keane - but had restricted opportunities at the Stadium Of Light.
He had spells on loan at Charlton and then the Blades.

"Godd luck to Greg. We were desperate for him to sign permanently as he was outstanding second half of the season. Carried us at times. As has already been mentioned, he should play right midield. Or wherever he wants in your midfield to be honest. If you leave him on the bench we'll take him on loan again, no problem."

"having watched him play about 40 games for us last season i can honestly say you have a good signing there. He's no good as a right back but great on either wing and a make shift striker if your losing, his long throw is as good as delap's and stoke proved albeit one dimensional its a good weapon to have in your locker. Ignore the 'top 4' clubs having a go on here cause he wouldn't get into their sides but he is a good player. Good luck next season, and hopefully see you the year after in the prem"

"Man utd are falling apart with ronaldo and tevez leaving i guess they will always play second fiddle allh madrid lol"

"As a fan of a team that had Halford, coupled with having seen him for Sunderland I can only say this is comprehensively the clearest waste of £2m I have seen since Ian Dowie was manager of my club and he did this sort of thing for fun. Many times too. I like Wolves and admire Mick McCarthy and when he nicked Iwelumo and picked up Ebanks Blake it showed a clear talent in the transfer market. But this is one of his bum decisions. I wouldn't even have him as a squad player as he will harm morale!
Good luck next season anyway Wolves. "

"There's a lot of London Reds piping up negatively about other clubs i.e. newly promoted clubs, signings. Are they worried about their potential competition?"

"i was quite impressed with him whilst on loan with the blades. A good signing, and competition for the right back area. He's never going to replace foley, but with possible injuries and suspensions hes a good player to add to the squad."

"to these man utd fans that come on ere sayin hes crap he may do a job for a newly promoted side. i think u need to spend less time rubbishing players that the likes of wolves are signin and focus more on the fact that u may struggle to win the league next season. it seems as though none of the big names want to play for utd. Ronaldo and tevez gone! Vidic unsure. Ribery benzema say no!! Chelsea or Pool for the title then "
