The 21-year-old Londoner, released by the Hammers at the end of the season, has opted for a move to Bramall Lane ahead of several other clubs.

Blades manager Kevin Blackwell said: "We're glad it's all been finalised. He brings pace and experience at this level where he has impressed on loan.

"Above all else he has the potential to develop into a real performer with us."

Reid, an England Under-19 international, had loans spells with Barnsley and Crystal Palace during the 2007/8 campaign and had stints at Blackpool and Wolves last season.
