Burnley will not be signing Andrew Cole after the striker failing to agree suitable terms with the Championship outfit.
The former Manchester United and England forward enjoyed a successful three-month loan spell with the Clarets from Sunderland and had expressed a desire to join them on a permanent basis.
But, following his release from Sunderland, Cole will not be returning to Turf Moor.
Clarets boss Owen Coyle said: "We loved working with him and I think he loved it at the football club, but he had a decision to make and he's made it, which he is within his rights to do.
"The bottom line is the deal is not suitable to him."

"Greed gets in the way of an alleged desire to carry on playing for us. Its a shame as he did a decent job and I would have thought he was sufficently flush to take a wage reduction,But like Unsworth he cant accept that the big earning days are behind him."
