Jones eyeing permanent Chopra deal

Cardiff boss Dave Jones hopes to sign on-loan striker Michael Chopra permanently, but admits promotion is a must if they are to secure a deal.

Chopra on Thursday signed a two-month loan deal with the Bluebirds - just 16 months after agreeing a switch from the Welsh capital to Sunderland.

And Jones, who was speaking after being named Championship manager of the month for October, said he harbours ambitions of bringing the 24-year-old back to Ninian Park on a long-term deal.

Asked whether a permanent transfer could be agreed in the future, Jones told Sky Sports News: "We'd like to thing so but 'Chops' wants to play in the Premier League. We've got to try and be in the situation where we can tempt him with that, but it's up to Sunderland as well. There are lots of things involved.

"We've been working hard on it over the last two months. (Sunderland manager) Roy (Keane) said 'come back in January' so I'm grateful to him for letting me have Michael back."

Speaking about the award, he added: "It's nice to have it and it means you're doing something right. I appreciate it but it's not just for me - it's about everything that goes on at the club. There's a feel-good factor here and we've been working hard to get out of this division."
