Darren Bent has been recalled to the England squad for the clash with Brazil, while Stephen Warnock and Tom Huddlestone have won call-ups.
Sunderland striker Bent has been in fine form this season, scoring eight goals for the Black Cats, although he did miss a penalty in Saturday's defeat at former club Tottenham.
However, international recognition had proved elusive. But, with Emile Heskey and Carlton Cole both ruled out of England's penultimate game before Fabio Capello must name his provisional squad for next summer's World Cup, Bent has been handed his chance.
The most notable inclusions in a squad shorn of Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Aaron Lennon and David James through injury are Aston Villa defender Warnock and Tottenham midfield man Huddlestone.
As expected there is no place for Manchester United striker Michael Owen as England prepare for next Saturday's friendly date in Doha.
Warnock's international career extends to an eight-minute substitute appearance in Trinidad last year, while Huddlestone is still to make his senior debut.
Capello has named a 24-man squad, although that number will reduce by one if Los Angeles Galaxy maintain their interest in the MLS play-offs on Sunday evening by beating Chivas USA as David Beckham would be forced to withdraw.
England squad: Foster (Manchester United), Green (West Ham), Hart (Manchester City); Bridge (Manchester City), Brown (Manchester United), Cahill (Bolton), Johnson (Liverpool), Lescott (Manchester City), Terry (Chelsea), Upson (West Ham), Warnock (Aston Villa); Barry (Manchester City), Beckham* (Los Angeles Galaxy), Carrick (Manchester United), Huddlestone, Jenas (both Tottenham), Lampard (Chelsea), Milner (Aston Villa), Wright-Phillips (Manchester City), Young (Aston Villa); Bent (Sunderland), Crouch, Defoe (both Tottenham), Rooney (Manchester United).

"Spurs fans seem a little too biased towards their players (bar one who doesnt want Jenas in the squad, which is total sense giving that he's rubbish), and just because Bent isnt your player anymore, you cant deny he deserves a chance given his form this season, and given this is a friendly and an experiment why not try him. However, I would have Owen ahead of him any day, and how he keeps getting ignored is beyond me. "

"pvb (Liverpool fan) i like owen but, he doesnt seem to ber scoring a lot of goals ofver the last couple of years? defoe on the other hand........."

"no owen again? come on fab, surely owen should be in the squad at the very least. i mean, we dont even have a single natural born goal scorer in the squad....what a shame"

"mrpointy22 - I think you're forgeting a guy by the name of Defoe there. Have to laugh at the fact that the front line is Rooney and three strikers from the lane over the last year, though. Tom's a strange one, though - won't stand a chance of travelling to the WC this time, but improving enough that when the next overhaul of the team happens he'll be in the mix. Unlike Jenas - why he's been picked is beyond me! "

"Players like Bent are good in certain teams, maybe spearheading certain systems and hence getting a run of confidence and form.. like strikers such as Philips and Beattie before him (so you know I'm not just bias), he will never step up to be a genuine international.. then again, when 'fall-guy' Heskey gets so many chances for England, why not try him - or anyone else? PS: db11thetruth (Sunderland fan): since when can someone - mrpointy22 (Norwich City fan) - not have an opinion just because their team obviously isn't one you have any respect for?"

"Got nothing against the guy but this guy should never ever go to a world cup..."

"Disappointed Gabby is out again... I think he may have blown his chance for the upcoming world cup now. He's really going to have to pick up where he left off and start scoring on a very regular basis again."
