Gianfranco Zola and Roberto Donadoni have reportedly emerged as the two leading contenders to replace Alan Curbishley as West Ham boss.
Former Chelsea forward Zola is believed to have held talks with Upton Park chiefs on Saturday, and impressed them enough to move firmly into the frame for the Hammers hot-seat.
His main rival for the post appears to be fellow Italian Donadoni, who also made a good impression on the club's hierarchy during talks on Friday.
Slaven Bilic was initially installed as the club's number one choice following Curbishley's departure earlier this week, but has been ruled out as he would not be available until January due to commitments with Croatia.
Michael Laudrup's name has also been thrown into the hat and he will reportedly hold talks with the club on Monday.
But Zola, who is currently joint coach of the Italy Under-21 side, and former Italy boss Donadoni appear to be ahead of Laudrup in the race as West Ham's director of football Gianluca Nani is a compatriot, and both would be happy with the continental-style working relationship.

"Oh god franco dont go there mate!"

"Laudrup would be a perfect choice rather than Donadoni or Zola."
zoso (Liverpool fan)
"I certainly wouldn't hire Donadoni. Italy played very negative and unimaginative football at Euro 2008 and didn't impress anyone."
websurfer (Liverpool fan)
"I don´t understand why this is dragging on cos I think the board alreadty has decide to chose one of the italiens. If they have already had very positve talks....... then come on..."
vezvaler (Aston Villa fan)
"have to admit that I think donadoni would make you sooo much better, but I still hope Allardyce or Souness would get the post :-). "
Reidy (Liverpool fan)
"why is it that only foreign managers are deemed as being any good? donadoni didn't look although he knew what he was doing at the euros. the (english) premier league is becoming saturated with foreigners who aren't any better than what we have already!"
skankie (West Ham United fan)
"Why not get Donadoni as coach and Di Canio as assistant. Then when they fall out,Di Canio can take over proper with some real football coaching under his hat!!. Not only is it's a master plan,Di Canio can help him with the English media and show him the way in the West Ham tradition of football"
Hammer (West Ham United fan)
"We seem to be interviewing some top names for the managers job...Its all a bit strange as we have not had a foreign manager before..I personally think that Donadoni with Di Canio as assistant would be perfect!"
