The Latics are currently 14th in the table and are five points clear of 18th-placed Bolton, who occupy the third and final relegation spot.
Next up for Wigan is fellow relegation rivals Birmingham at the JJB Stadium, but Bruce's men still also have to face title-chasing Manchester United and Chelsea before the end of the season.
"We've just got to concentrate on accumulating enough points from our last seven games," he told the Wigan Evening Post.
"While 35 points has often been enough to keep you up in recent years, I have always said 38 points, level par, is the target.
"So we have seven games to get seven more points."
