Wigan have made an enquiry for highly-rated Greek defender Socratis Papastathopoulos, according to reports.
The 22-year-old has already been watched by the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Juventus, Villarreal, Monaco and Ajax.
AEK Athens are ready to listen to offers but they will not entertain anything less than €3.5million (£2.8million).
Wigan are believed to have made contact with Papastathopoulos' representatives and confirmed their interest.
AEK are now awaiting further developments from Wigan, although there are a number of clubs from throughout Europe keeping close tabs on him.
Papastathopoulos is set to feature in Euro 2008 for defending champions Greece.
