Wigan boss Roberto Martinez insists he is not at all worried by reports linking Sunderland, Liverpool and Tottenham with Lee Cattermole.
The midfielder only joined from Middlesbrough last summer but an impressive first season for the Latics, plus some good performances in England's run to the European Under-21 Championship final, has seen him attract interest.
Former Wigan manager Steve Bruce reportedly wants to take Cattermole to Sunderland, while Liverpool and Tottenham have also been mooted as admirers.
Latics chairman Dave Whelan has already stressed the 21-year-old is not for sale, though, and Martinez is confident Cattermole can continue to progress at his current club.
"I am not worried about the situation with Lee, as he is still a young man and you want that interest," Martinez told the Wigan Evening Post.
"I want the top clubs in world football to be talking about our players and about our football club.
"I prefer that to people not talking about our players. That is always a bad sign.
"It is down to us to keep progressing and making sure we are allowing these players to remain motivated and have the incentive to continue progressing. That should be part of our growth as a club and we need players like Lee around to do that.
"It is important that Lee has his targets and keeps developing as a player, and we hope he can fulfil his potential.
"We have all seen he is a leader and someone who can go to the very top in world football. To have a player like that at your club is very exciting."

"Not an Instant replacing for mashce but I would like for Liverpool to sign him, 1-2 years coming of the bench he could become quality and we can sell mascherano. I agree with some of the posts needs another year playing every game but he undoubtedly be expensive if he improves. Plus we tend to destroy potential"

"If mascha is leaving for 30mil buy essien for chelsea. A sneaky bid, would be near impossible but you never know? I think he is the only other 'holding midfielder'(he's much more than that) near mascha's class...but in truth don't sell him or alonso..."

"good player, have always rated him. What about Nolan as a replacement for Masch if he goes???"

"He needs another season with us in the PL at least. he's come on great but is still improving and needs to play 1st team football for another season. I don't think the chairman will be keen to se him go to Sunderland"
fordinho9 (Liverpool fan)
"Obviously I hope Mascherano stays as I think he's fantastic, and I would be gutted if he does leave, but with the new Champions League rules Cattermole could be good signing if Masch does go?! Depending on the fee of course. Also, if Masch does leave then Jay Spearing will find out a lot about his Anfield career.... "
