Byrne revealed he has spent the week on the phone trying to set up deals but admitted landing new players can prove easier said than done.

He told the club's official website: "The key thing is making sure that clubs and agents know that we are in the market. We have spoken to three Championship clubs and five Premier League clubs in the past few days to see what they might be letting go.

"There is a lot of work that goes in to get a player here. I have just come in and I have been on the phone non-stop."

He added: "We spoke to Barnet about a few players but they are asking for ridiculous money to come here and that's the situation we are faced with, so we are going to look at the foreign market and see if we can grab a gem.

"The (Anthony) McNamee deals are out there but you have to be very quick if you are going to draw a deal out. We have one or two irons in the fire and there will definitely be some faces coming in as the summer progresses."
