The former Luton, West Ham and QPR right-back holds a UEFA Pro A licence and has been an assistant to Ian Holloway at Plymouth Argyle and again at Leicester.

Breacker will work closely with Parkinson, and the Addicks boss told the club's official website: "I've known Tim for a long time. He brings a lot of experience to the table and I'm looking forward to working with him.

"It's something I've been discussing with the board over the summer. As with any deal in football, it's taken a while to get finalised, but we're very pleased it's done. I got to know him through playing against him and then seeing him in opposition dugouts when I became a manager."

Elsewhere, first-team coach Mark Kinsella has also signed a new deal with the club and Damian Matthew has started a new development coach role as well as remaining in charge of the reserves, with Phil Chapple reverting to chief scout.
