Veteran Carlisle midfielder Graham Kavanagh earned plaudits from his manager Greg Abbott after his two goals secured a 3-1 win over Charlton.
The former Republic of Ireland international also conceded the penalty that allowed Deon Burton to level for the Addicks after Ian Harte's opener, but he made amends in the second period as the Cumbrians ended a difficult week off the pitch on a high.
"Kavanagh made a poor challenge but that's when character kicked in," said Abbott. "We went on to produce a wonderful second-half performance and two moments of sheer brilliance won us the game."
The resignation of the club's chief executive David Allen and his criticism of the remaining owners left Carlisle in turmoil on the eve of the game, but Abbott was keen to concentrate on what he saw as his side's best performance of the season.
"I think we got the rewards for a lot of frustration," he said. "We have been playing well and not getting what we deserve but in this game we got it in fine style.
"Everyone showed quality and determination and now the key is to do it consistently. We have to look forward and upward. It showed the club is united. I am pleased for the three owners because they have had a tough time. They haven't got millions to spend but they love the club."
