The Canaries have now lost just once in 14 games in all competitions as Grant Holt took his tally for the season to 15 and Wes Hoolahan and Chris Martin moved into double figures to settle a largely one-sided encounter on Tuesday night.

"When we came in, all we had was one point from three games," said Lambert, who took over from Bryan Gunn in August. "It is never easy to play catch-up and all I can say is that the players have been absolutely phenomenal and deserve all the credit they get.

"Everyone knows we've been on a massive run - I don't really need to say it. All we can do now is make sure we keep it going by trying to take three points in every match we play.

"To be fair to Brighton they are a decent side, Gus Poyet has got them going and they gave us a good game but we've got the result we wanted in the end.

"It's good to see three players on double figures but they're only as good as the men behind them and this result was all about the performance as a team. As a unit I thought we were excellent."
