Former non-league star Bartley is close to finalising a new deal with the Cherries after impressing during 21 appearances last term, but with healthy competition for midfield spots at Dean Court, the powerful competitor has been working hard to give himself the edge.

"I'm definitely looking forward to the season," he told the Daily Echo.

"I've enjoyed the break but I'm getting bored and miss football, so I can't wait to get back stuck in. I was sent a schedule by (physio) Steve Hard and I've been keeping to that, which started on June 1.

"I'm just getting prepared and feel in good shape, but you never really know until you test yourself against the other boys. I've given myself the best possible chance."
