Colchester United boss Geraint Williams feels defender Matt Heath will prove an excellent acquisition for the Us in League One next term.
Heath made five appearances for Colchester towards the end of the season after a temporary switch from Leeds and showed enough to persuade Williams to sign him on a permanent basis.
"I am delighted to welcome Matt back to the club," said Williams.
"He came down on loan and was unfortunate to pick up a few niggly injuries, so he didn't play as much as he would have liked.
"However, in the games he did play he showed some very good qualities that I feel will improve the team.
"Matt, Chris Coyne and Pat Baldwin will be in competition for two starting places and that is exactly what we need - competition and quality - so I am delighted to have him on board."
