Wilson pleased with Pools workout

Hartlepool boss Danny Wilson claimed there "were lots of positives" from Pools' 2-1 pre-season friendly win over Greenock Morton on Tuesday.

Midfielder Anthony Sweeney sealed the victory for Pools with a last-minute strike after James Brown had given Wilson's men an early lead only for Morton midfielder Stevie Masterton to level just before the half-time interval.

"I thought it was a very good workout against a good side in Morton," Wilson told the club's official website. "They looked quite sharp as we'd expected because they've had a few games on us but in fairness I felt we looked good too.

"We had quite a lot of efforts on goal in the first half and it was disappointing we didn't go in ahead at the break - it wasn't the best goal to give away.

"There were lots of positives to take away though; Alan Power and Ritchie Jones showed what they can do and with games they will get better.

"We brought on Derek Soutar in goal and he'll spend the week with us so we can have a look - he didn't really get a lot of action but he didn't do anything wrong either."
