Stan Ternent was pleased with Huddersfield's response to going down to 10 men despite suffering Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat at Darlington.
The Terriers crashed out of the tournament courtesy of Alan White's solitary goal after Gary Roberts had been shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Ricky Ravenhill.
Ternent said: "Nobody likes losing but although in the first half we were off our game, we were a lot better second half.
"I will have to have a look at the video for the sending off. It looked a bit harsh and I'll ask the referee to have a look at it.
"With 10 men we gave it a really good go in the second half and it also gave me a chance to see what some of the boys are made of.
"I made changes for the game, but played a side I felt was capable of winning."
