The 19-year-old defender impressed when he replaced Gaby Zakuani during the second half of the defeat by Barnsley.

Bennett, who joined from Grimsby in a deal which could be worth in excess of £500,000, told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph: "When I signed the manager [Darren Ferguson] said he'd bought me to play me and it would be great to start some games this season.

"I'm not taking anything for granted though as I have to get used to the team's style of play first.

"I accept the manager might not want to throw me in straight away but I'm confident I won't let anyone down when my chance comes.

"Everyone would love to play at Newcastle and I'm no different. That would be a great place to make my first start but I'll just have to wait and see."
