Tranmere Rovers caretaker boss Les Parry saluted his side's best performance of the season after they sank Southend United 2-0.

Goals from Ian Goodison and Terry Gornell earned Rovers their first points in five outings with a solid victory in Tuesday night's League One clash at Prenton Park.

"It was by far our best performance of the season," said Parry. "In the end, I was disappointed we only won by a two-goal margin.

"We dominated for much of the time, although Southend did create a few chances towards the end. Every player was superb and gave 100%. We stayed tight at the back, and it was great to keep a clean sheet.

"We have been putting in performances recently without results. Here we had the performance and the result, and it is sure to provide a big boost to our confidence.

"We more than matched Southend in every department, and we frustrated them for long periods."
