The 32-year-old has been training with the Magpies for two weeks and could make his County debut against Exeter on Saturday.

Boss Ian McParland is delighted to have lured the former Tottenham, Ipswich and Wolves defender to Meadow Lane.

"Jamie is an experienced campaigner, who will bring a wealth of experience to our squad, I'm certain of that," said McParland.

"He is a solid defender who is comfortable on the ball as well, and I'm sure he will prove to be an astute signing for us.

"With Stephen Hunt still out for a few more weeks, it was important we brought in some competition down the left-hand side."
