Glover: Win can be turning point

New Port Vale boss Dean Glover has challenged his side to build on their surprise 2-1 victory at Shrewsbury and move up the League Two table.

Louis Dodds put Vale ahead after 19 minutes with a shot that flew in off the underside of the crossbar, but Shrewsbury looked to have snatched a point when Michael Symes equalised in the 89th minute.

Vale then had Lee Collins sent off for a second bookable offence but still managed to snatch a dramatic winner as skipper Marc Richards broke free and scored after colliding with goalkeeper Luke Daniels, who was taken to hospital for plastic surgery to his face.

A delighted Glover said: "We have ended a losing run, let's hope it's the start of a winning run.

"We knew it would be a daunting task coming here. We had to stifle them. I'd have played 10 in midfield if I could and the plan was to stop their passing game.

"Thankfully it worked because we managed to beat the best team in the league."
