Rovers boss hopes for step up

First-team coach Paul Trollope wants his Bristol Rovers players to step up their performances ahead of an intense period of pre-season games.

Rovers face Torquay at Plainmoor on Saturday, followed by three games in five days in next week's tour of Sweden and Denmark.

The squad has further games against Yate, Llanelli and Salisbury on their return, and Trollope wants a shift in emphasis from purely fitness building to winning games.

He told the club's official website: "It is an intense period and while the lads are going to get their fitness from the running and the little top ups in tactical and technical work, the main thing is the games and making sure we progress the way we want to in those.

"Torquay is a step up in terms of opposition from Weymouth, and one that will create a big test for us.

"However it's a game where we will be looking to put in a performance that will enable us to get a win, and also improve the players' fitness."
