Michael, 33, is a free agent and is believed to have opted for a move to the Robins despite offers from a number of clubs, including Grimsby and Bradford.

He netted 25 times last season but it was not enough to prevent Mansfield from losing their Football League status.

Younger brother Rory has been offered a new deal by the Stags but he would require a compensation fee as he is under the age of 24.

Downing told the Gloucester Citizen: "Both are keen to be part of it here so we will see what the next few days brings.

"Rory is a tall lad who can play on the left or up front has potential. We will see what the situation is regarding his contract and negotiations are ongoing."
