Gill will link up with the Blue Square Premier side as a loan signing until the transfer window re-opens in January, but will join Jim Harvey's coaching staff immediately.

He said: "I had some contact with Forest Green after I went on the transfer list and everything was finally agreed.

"It's a great opportunity for me to start off my coaching career and the other thing that appealed to me was the chance to keep playing as well.

"I think Forest Green have the potential to be a Football League club and I would like to play my part in helping them to achieve that.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with Cheltenham Town and I've made some genuine friends there."
