Davies bemoans penalty decision

Chester boss Simon Davies was satisfied with his side's point against Shrewsbury but bemoaned the decision to hand the visitors a penalty.

The Shrews took the lead when Grant Holt converted from the spot after Ben Davies was controversially adjudged to have been brought down under a challenge from James Vaughan.

And although Chester hit back just before the break through Paul McManus to earn a share of the spoils, Davies felt a bit hard done by at the full-time whistle.

"I've spoken to John Danby and he's said the linesman was flagging to say the ball was out of play and then they've given a penalty," said the City boss.

"In big games these decisions don't help and then you've got around 10 minutes where the players are feeling hard done by and have to pull themselves together."

But he added: "We did well and stuck at it and I thought we deserved a point. The game was finely balanced and they hit a post a couple of times, but I felt our superior fitness came through and we could have nicked one."

 Chester 1 - 1 Shrewsbury
