The former Arsenal and Tottenham centre-back controversially quit the Magpies just one game into a five-year contract at the ambitious club.

And County director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson accused Campbell of quitting the club during a training session.

Campbell, who is being linked with a move to Hertha Berlin, is angry at the claims, saying he quit the training session because he was injured.

"I didn't walk out halfway through training, I had a hamstring injury," Campbell told The Sun.

"I haven't spoken to Sven since. Why should I? It's all a mess."
