Jimmy Calderwood fears losing Lee Miller in the transfer window after his double against Kilmarnock fired Aberdeen into fourth spot in the SPL.
The Scotland striker scored either side of the interval to give the Dons a 2-1 victory at Rugby Park on Tuesday.
Miller flicked home Charlie Mulgrew's corner with his heel before looping a diving header over Damien Rascle.
The 25-year-old has scored seven goals in seven games - form that won him December's Clydesdale Bank Player of the Month award.
And Calderwood prays the former Falkirk, Bristol City, Hearts and Dundee United player is too settled in Aberdeen to move again in the near future.
"He's got such a good touch for a big fellow," the Dons boss said. "He's great in the air and is a good finisher.
"Maybe I shouldn't be saying this until February 1 but I've got to be honest, he's a great player.
"You are always worried about (losing good players).
"You never know in this game but I would think he'll still be at Aberdeen right to the end of the season and hopefully a bit longer."
Calderwood admitted Miller's first-half strike had got his team out of a hole.
Allan Russell blasted Killie ahead after Garry Hay's blocked strike had fallen kindly for him, but their luck in front of goal did not last as they failed to capitalise on first-half pressure.
Calderwood, who believes Scott Severin will be fit to face Celtic on Sunday despite coming off with a knock, added: "I was very disappointed with the whole team in the first half - our passing, the pace of our game.
"They were getting simple balls into (David) Fernandez that were causing us massive problems. It was a bit of a fluke goal, although it was a good finish.
"Then out of nothing big Lee has got us a goal. It was a good corner and wonderful skill from the big man.
"We had a few choice words at half-time. The second half we started a lot better, passing at pace and defending further up the park not making simple mistakes. Then we got another wonderful goal from big Lee.
"They threw everything at us but we had a big physical team out there and we got a very important win at a very difficult venue."
Kilmarnock manager Jefferies criticised the "sloppy" defending that led to them losing their sixth home game from seven and denied them entry into the top six.
Jefferies said: "It's a game we didn't need to chase because we should have been at least a couple of goals up on the first-half performance.
"It's a situation we have been in two or three times at home and have failed to grasp the opportunity. "We need to make them aware they can't win games in 45 minutes."
