Rams: No Hoops bid for Commons

Derby County insist there has been "no formal bid" from Celtic for their highly-rated Scotland international winger Kris Commons.

Celtic manager Tony Mowbray has made no secret of his admiration for Commons, and it had been reported that the Glasgow giants had made a £3.5million offer for the 25-year-old.

However, a Derby spokesman said: "There has been no formal bid, but we are aware of interest from a number of clubs."

Commons joined the Rams on a free transfer from East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest last summer and scored seven goals in his first season at Pride Park, most notably in a 1-0 home win over Manchester United in the Carling Cup semi-final first leg in January.

Commons was born in Mansfield but is able to represent Scotland through his grandparents.

"hiltongary2000 you quite clearly didnt watch kris commons single handedly destroy man utd in the carling cup semi-final. The boy is a quality player and we are happy to keep him if deranged fans like you dont want him at Celtic"

hiltongary2000 (Celtic fan)

"We better not sign this dud! We've surely got better youngsters on the way through. This guy is awful, long gone are the days of signing bigger players like sutton & hartson. Now we have to settle for Commons from derby county. What a load of crap! Please, please, please Tony Mowbray, don't pack our team with championship no hopers!"
