Young Guns book final with Chelsea

Arsenal will meet Chelsea in the Carling Cup final, but they needed extra-time to see off Tottenham 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

Mido ensured the game went the distance when he cancelled out Emmanuel Adebayor's opener with seven minutes remaining, but Jeremie Aliadiere struck in extra-time before Pascal Chimbonda's own-goal earned the Gunners a 5-3 aggregate win.

Tottenham had started quite well and Robbie Keane had an early opportunity to put them in front when he raced on to a Michael Dawson throughball, but Manuel Almunia was quickly out to block the striker's effort.

However, Paul Robinson had a let off at the other end when Kolo Toure scuffed wide after the England keeper had fumbled Denilson's effort from the edge of the area.

Neither side managed to break the deadlock before half-time, with neither Steed Malbranque nor Adebayor able to hit the target when in good positions.

Adebayor came close again in the second half with a header from a Theo Walcott corner, with the young England forward replaced soon after by Tomas Rosicky.

And it was the substitute who was the architect for the opener after 76 minutes.

His initial 20-yard shot was parried out by Robinson, but the Czech midfielder regained possession and slipped a pass through to Adebayor, who cooly slotted into the far corner of the net.

Arsenal looked unlikely to surrender their advantage from there but Spurs hit back with seven minutes of normal time remaining when Mido headed home Jermaine Jenas' free-kick from the left.

Both sides had chances to grab a winner in stoppage time, Mido sending a curling effort just past the post and Robinson saving from Denilson and Toure.

The first half of extra time was pretty uneventful until the very last moment when Aliadiere sent a right-footed effort past Robinson from 12 yards.

But the result was not put beyond doubt until after more than 110 minutes when Rosicky's shot from six yards hit the post and rebounded into the net off the unfortunate Chimbonda.
